CONCLUSION

The project compiled a snapshot of the resources and materials that I have collected over the course of my library career and my time in the SJSU MLIS program. This blog discussed and listed 30 children’s books and 30 media resources that would be a valuable addition to any library facility. They reflect an ongoing effort to update the collection while still recognizing the value of classics, the need for diverse formats such as the inclusion of foreign language materials, and the growing role of technology in libraries and in our children’s lives. This list will also continuously grow and be updated as more resources and materials become available in the future. It is important to continuously educate ourselves on the developments in children’s services and how we can better serve the community.

As we continue to add to our list, we must be able to also share this information with our colleges and patrons. One of the most rewarding aspects of this course was the discussion and sharing of resources between classmates. As information professionals, we must be able to collaborate and communicate with our peers and resources that they can share knowledge on. From there, we can share it with fellow staff members and patrons. In addition to resources that are utilized on library computers and displays, there are also resources that I recommend to parents personally. Applications such as Arbookfinder, Goodreads, and Duolingo. All of which are free and available on any phone’s App Store. Sharing this information, or having it available on a flyer, empowers the receiver to take their learning into their own hands. It empowers them to independently find information and improve their digital literacy.
